 Festivals and culture :

Festivals also known as ‘tshechu’ are an integral part of all Bhutanese and always, held on the tenth tenth day of a month of the lunar calendar corresponding to the birthday of Guru Rimpoche (Guru Padmasambhava). Besides, the blessings from watching all the mask dances what we personally like about these festivals are also how the entire community come together in their best attires to witness the celebration. Games and entertainments are going on throughout and everyone is happy. During your visit to one of these festivals our guides will explain how each of these masks dances has special meaning and heritage from as long as 8th century when Guru Rimpoche first visited our country.

Every community has their own Tshechus, varying in months but always coinciding with 10th day. Two on the most popular Tshechus, are the Paro Tshechu in Spring and Thimphu Tshechu in Fall. These events also see some of the highest number of tourist arrival in the country and therefore if you are interested, you must book your travel early.
